“Chemo” is a song of dark passion and hope written while creator Michael Josephson was halfway through undergoing chemotherapy treatment. In a time of pain and reflection Josephson speaks of loneliness, death, change and love. The words are painted into a lush palette of layered vocals and instrumentation that attempt to portray the beauty in the darkness and the strength in solitude.

‘The Coast.’

-Single and Official Music Video proposed release October 2020.

A song written as Josephson took a trip to the beach as he was nearing the end of his chemotherapy treatment. Inspired by feelings of loneliness and escapism as he watched those around him flirt with love and adventure, facets of life that had long become abstracted, distant fantasies to Josephson. The music video for ‘The Coast’ paints a surreal and introspective landscape. It was originally meant to be filmed on location at the beach, but when the Covid-19 epidemic coincidentally began as Josephson was finishing chemotherapy he was restricted to making the film clip alone in his studio.

bio/album story.

In August 2019 Australian musician and producer Michael Josephson AKA ‘Josephson’ was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer. Josephson was to spend 6 months on life saving chemotherapy. After much soul searching Josephson decided to use the energy he did have to make an album during the ordeal. ‘Love, Sex and Chemo’ is this album. A self produced and mixed album that attempts to speak universally about the highs and lows of love, death, sex, life and everything in between.

Check out the album lyrics here.

Josephson was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia and started down the path of music relatively late at the age of 22. A self-taught musician Josephson released his first album with his folk band Moski Jo in 2015. After the album release the band separated and Josephson started on his new solo project, named simply his last name; ‘Josephson’. It became a project of passion focussed around lyrics and his modern folk sensibilities, inspired by artists such as Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens and The Shins.

‘Love, Sex and Chemo’ as an album is a culmination of years of songwriting combined with songs freshly written whilst Josephson was on chemotherapy. The album is entirely self produced and mixed and is spear-headed by the lead single ‘Chemo.’

‘Love, Sex and Chemo,’ is a heart felt journey that may not be for everyone. It was created in the hope that it would inspire even just a small glimmer of beauty and meaning for some people in the world. To Josephson this would be a success greater than fame or fortune.

Proposed release November 2020.
